What have the Romans ever done for us?

"What have the Romans ever done for us?"

Reviewed and updated 5th October 2021

………. apart from better sanitation, and medicine, and education, and irrigation, and public health, and roads, and a freshwater system, and baths, and public order ……. 😊 (apologies to those not familiar with Monty Python stuff!)

Well, they also left us the outstanding Hadrian’s Wall which is the first topic of today’s blog.  In January 2014, the oldest piece of paper in my ‘in tray’ was a newspaper article about the World Heritage Site of Hadrian’s Wall – it was dated 28 Sep 2003 entitled 50 great things to do in Britain (it was second only to seeing Stonehenge at dawn).  As a history buff, I warmed to the idea of doing it but proceeded to procrastinate for over 10 years.  It was only really my diagnosis plus early retirement that brought it up my pecking order once again.

To cut a long story short, Chris and I are going to walk this wall 26 – 31 May to raise funds for PLANETS Charity and to raise awareness of Neuroendocrine Cancer. (After note – we collected £4,000).

But this walk became a turning point for me personally.  It triggered this blog site and everything you see in it; it then won awards and generated a phenomenal amount of awareness for Neuroendocrine Cancer.  This awareness continues today as my internet footprint is now rather large.  In addition, I set up a private Facebook support group, the largest by membership in the world as far as I can tell.

Always look on the bright side of life!
