I first wrote this blog early in 2015 and I borrowed the term ‘Four More Years’ from the US presidential election campaigns, a big topic at that time. At the time of writing I had just celebrated being on Lanreotide for 4 years (my first treatment was 9th December 2010). Curiously I was only asking for another 4 years but my blog title meant I was somewhat restricted in choice of timescale! I posted the original below. I now find myself writing a follow-up post 10 years later. Had someone asked me if I thought I would be repeating this post title 10 years later, I would have said “most unlikely” based on my diagnosis of what appeared to be advanced metastatic Neuroendocrine Tumours. Well I’m still here to let you know you can’t accurately pick a time to go and your doctors don’t have accurate crystal balls either. The precise reasons for my longevity will never be known but I guess it’s a mix of a few things including but not limited to:
- early intervention by my own intuition.
- suspicious and thorough primary and secondary care healthcare professionals.
- suspicious and thorough secondary care healthcare professionals.
- access to a Multi-Disciplinary Team for NET.
- surgical intervention.
- keeping busy.
- great support.
- …and I have to include Lanreotide (call it intuition rather than scientific evidence in my own case!)
Has Lanreotide worked for me?
I don’t think I can prove that in a scientific sense, clearly it’s impossible to turn the clock back to see what would have happened using a different treatment regime! But on the basis that my team does not want to stop prescribing it and I don’t want to stop taking it, then the old phrase applies – “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” You can read about my experience with Lanreotide by clicking here or on the picture below.

Special feature – My Patient Group
The group was an afterthought. In terms of the largest patient groups across the world, mine is the newest but has grown into the biggest, perhaps the international flavour helps. In terms of membership sources, US,UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, New Zealand, Ireland, India, Germany and Netherlands dominate making almost 90% of the group membership. Click here to join. I currently have over 11,400 membership! Not as rare as you think! Thanks for reading Ronny
