Lansoprazole reduces the amount of acid your stomach makes. It’s used for indigestion, heartburn and acid reflux and gastroesophageal-reflux-disease (GERD). Lansoprazole is also taken to prevent and treat stomach ulcers. Sometimes, lansoprazole is taken for an illness called Zollinger-Ellison syndrome. Lansoprazole is in a class of medications called proton pump inhibitors. It works by decreasing the amount of acid made in the stomach.
