A doctor who has special training in diagnosing and treating cancer. Some oncologists specialize in a particular type of cancer treatment.

In US, there can be different types not found in other countries, e.g.

A medical oncologist treats cancer using chemotherapy or other medications, such as targeted therapy or immunotherapy.
A surgical oncologist removes the tumour and nearby tissue during surgery.
A radiation oncologist treats cancer using radiation therapy.

When I was being told I had an advanced and incurable cancer, I did what most people seem to do in movies ….. I asked “how long do I have“. The Oncologist said ” … perhaps just months“. That must have been quite a shock because for a few moments after that, I heard nothing – my brain was clearly still trying to process those words – I wasn’t even feeling unwell!
