This may be known as something else at the lab, country or healthcare system level but essentially it’s a hormone test to check (mainly) for functional pancreatic NET.

This usually includes chromogranin A and B, vasoactive intestinal peptide VIP, somatostatin, glucagon, gastrin, pancreatic polypeptide PP, and neurotensin. Blood should also be taken into a plain clotted tube for analysis of urea, electrolytes and calcium level to aid interpretation of the test.

Some doctors and labs also include 5HIAA.

BackgroundSome people on hear the terms "tumour markers" and "hormone levels" when they are diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Cancer. Most of them will have had a form of medical testing at some point in their life, i.e. the sampling and testing of blood, urine, saliva, stool or body tissue.
