Blog. It was a funny old year in 2024. New challenges prevented me from exploiting the increase in followers and views of 2022/2023 following the slight slump during the pandemic, coupled with the introduction of new Facebook algorithms which treated non-profits such as myself as businesses (clearly a tactic to increase advertising revenue). Personal challenges included some strange symptoms which I self diagnose as Hives (urticaria) for the first 6 months and the last two months of 2024. This led to me to write two posts (Histamine The NET Effect and Hives (Urticaria) The NET Effect
I still managed to push beyond the 2024 totals, but it was hard work!
To be honest, I’m still flabbergasted by reaching one million views during 2018, and then reach 2 million in December 2020. I’m now almost two thirds of the way to 3 million at 31st Dec 2024. It just kinda happened, there wasn’t a plan! It’s mindboggling. I’m grateful for every single view though.
The beginning of 2024 was not great. Following a visit to London mid December 2023, I came back with an unwanted present – COVID! And for the second time (despite being up to date on vaccines). It did not subside after 7 days of testing negative so my GP diagnosed back to back viral and bacterial chest infections. Following a course of antibiotics and steroids, it soon cleared up. Amazingly, Chris was not affected. Read about my experience by clicking here.
My private group. One of 2024’s success stories. A wee Scottish guy with a computer hits over 10,000 members accelerating past older and long established NET groups. I built it and people are lining up to join daily. I have a great team though! You can join my group below (see green box) or click this link.
My page “Neuroendocrine Cancer” was badly hit by the Facebook algorithm change but things are slowly improving and actually got better in 2024 – but still way below what it used to be. I sometimes think there are ulterior forces at work and not just Facebook algorithms and the usual trolls! I can’t work out whether the page is less supported, or the algorithm doesn’t work for the current content. Using Facebook ads to improve hits has turned out to be hit-and-miss (yes I fell for Facebook’s underlying plan with pages). I’m reviewing that.
Running my “Ronny Allan” Facebook page takes a lot of effort, but I get a lot of satisfaction from doing it (and the doing the travelling that supports it!). I am using a slightly different type of page for this, so perhaps the algorithm is less sensitive or people just like the stuff I post there more than my standard blogs! A work in progress to figure it all out.
My new awareness page World Neuroendocrine Cancer Day is growing steadily and posts are often supported more than my much larger page.
Summary
Despite the difficulties above, I still managed almost 287,000 blog views in the year 2024, more than 10,000 higher than in 2023. The gap would have been bigger had I not gone on holidays! I guess that is a fact of life in a one man band organisation generating more awareness and information than most of the members of the so called international awareness system in place Based on my 2024 figures, I should hit 3 million views by summer 2026 but I will aim to do it much quicker with your help!
I’m often surprised at some of my statistics. Sometimes I think I have written a “blockbuster” which then acts like a damp squib! Other times, I knock up a quick blog in 30 minutes and it gets stellar reviews and numbers. It tends to balance out though.
When I look at the top 20 most-read views for 2024 (and for 2023!), some things stand out and resonate with the above summary of what I like vs what you like. Click on each title below for the top 10 and then see the 11th-20th most popular below that as another table.
Odd stuff – why did chocolate tickle your taste buds and ended up as the 5th most popular post? I have no idea!
Surprising but not to me. 14th most popular post for the entire year and is only 3 months old. The subject is controversial although to me it is a no-brainer.

I would also mention those who contributed to my “Tea Fund” which resides on PayPal. You don’t need a PayPal account as you can select a card but don’t forget to select the number of units first (i.e. 1 = £4, 2 = £8, 3 = £12, and so on), plus further on, tick a button to NOT create a PayPal account if you don’t need one. Clearly, if you have a PayPal account, the process is much simpler
